What Rays of Hope Funds

The following represents programs that have received grant funding from Rays of Hope to offer programs, free of charge, to breast cancer survivors and thrivers including those living with metastatic breast cancer. We consider someone a survivor the day they are diagnosed.

Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research

The Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research (ROH CBCR) was established in 2011 with an initial grant of $1.5 million ant from Rays of Hope The ROH CBCR is supported each year through funds raised through the Rays of Hope Walk & Run Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer. The ROH CBCR  brings together a group of talented scientists with diverse areas of expertise to create a team that is deeply committed to dramatically reducing the impact of breast cancer. Work supported by the ROH CBCR emphasizes a deeper mechanistic understanding of how obesity, diabetes and environmental exposures interact to alter breast cancer risk and prognosis. One of the hallmarks of the Center is the establishment of the Breast Tissue Research Registry.

Paradise City Dragon Boat

This team of cancer survivors and supporters paddles on the Connecticut River in Northampton, MA. Their goals include developing into a top notch racing team, paddling their way to health and fitness, and building camaraderie and support among team members. Learn more at Paradise City Dragon Boat

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA of Greater Springfield and the YMCA of Greater Westfield

This YMCA cancer survivor program focuses on improving wellness through fitness programming including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and balance. Participants can engage in complementary programs such as yoga, foot reflexology, mediation and nutrition workshops. Their staff is trained in cancer rehabilitation and will help you focus on fitness and wellness goals while developing functional abilities and improving confidence and self-esteem. Graduates who have experienced a recurrence or new form of cancer can join LIVESTRONG at the YMCA again providing they are active members of the YMCA of Greater Springfield. PVRC Dragon Rays Dragon Boat Team

The Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club (PVRC)’s dragon boat team is open to adult paddlers from all communities and offers targeted support to women and men who have had breast cancer. Breast cancer survivors paddle at no cost. Learn more at Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club.

CHD Cancer House of Hope

Located at 1999 Westfield Street in West Springfield, MA, the CHD Cancer House of Hope provides free access to services and therapies that bring comfort, care, strength, resilience, and hope to patients with cancer and their loved ones. Available programming includes: Support Groups, All Cancers Support Group, Family and Friends Support Group, Introductory information session group for open discussion and recommendation of services, Breast Cancer Support Group. Therapies include Relaxation Group, Reiki, massage therapy (facilitated by certified oncology massage therapist) and yoga. Other support offered includes a Wig and Accessories Boutique featuring new and refreshed wigs, as well as hats and scarves; professional wig consultation and styling by appointment; mastectomy bras and forms; lending and resource library; and a meditation garden.
