Why should you support the Walk of Champions?
Dear Family and Friends,
This is my second year as co-chair of the Walk of Champions. This fundraiser has become a passion of mine because I know the difference the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center made to my family and friends fighting cancer while trying to live a 'normal' life.
I will also be walking with the D&D Fitness Factory team and accepted the challenge to raise funds to support Walk of Champions. D&D Fitness Factory became involved in the Walk of Champions when our sister-in-law, Donna Goudreau, received Cancer treatments at the Baystate Mary Lane Cancer Department. The treatments not only helped to fight the cancer but because of the wonderful staff - it also touched her heart and helped to heal her spirit.
The Walk of Champions was inspired in 2006 by John O’Neill following a personal experience he and his family shared with the staff at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital; in particular its Cancer Services. John was so touched by the care and compassion that they received that he wanted to give something back to the community and Walk of Champions was born.
Please help support me in this important project by contributing generously. Walk of Champions supports the men and women in our communities who are fighting cancer while receiving amazing care through the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center. For more information about Walk of Champions you can visit their website.
To date this walk has raised over $900,000! These funds helped to expand the Cancer Center! The space now holds two new infusion bays, four new exam rooms, a new nurse's station, a centralized medication room and an exclusive discharge area. And what does this mean to the patients? It means the place they are receiving treatments - sometimes for hours at a time - is bright and big - and they can look out onto the healing garden. It means when they are being discharged - it is in private. It means being able to treat more patients. It means more than we can know.
